Deity and the temple at Ayodhya

Ayodhya is one of seven most holy places for Hindus in India whereas Varanasi is considered as Holiest of the seven holy cities for Hindus.[3]. Ayodhya is revered[4][5] by Hindus as the birthplace of the Maryaada Purushottam, i.e. ideal man[6], Lord Rama, King of Ayodhya, who is also worshiped by Hindus as an avatar of Vishnu. The Skandh Puraan[7], narrates in detail the different temples in Ayodhya, including the one commemorating the birthplace of Rama.[3][8]

The deities are perpetual minors and against them Limitation Laws do not run. The place of birth that is Ram Janm Bhumi is a juristic person. The deity also attained the divinity like Agni, Vayu, Kedarnath. Asthan is personified as the spirit of divine worshiped as the birth place of Ram lala or Shri Ram as a child . Spirit of divine ever remains present every where. [4]

History

Historically, the site was of utmost importance to Hindus. Hindus have been worshiping the place as Janm Sthan i.e. a birth place as deity and visiting it as a sacred place of pilgrimage as of right since time immemorial.[9] The Janmasthan temple was rebuilt many times by kings of well-known dynasties prior to 900A.D.[10][11][12]

After the temple was demolished in 1528 by Emperor Aurangzeb[4][9], it was under continuous veneration and Hindus have over the time put in utmost efforts to rebuild temple at the site which is sacred to Hindus. Hindus continued celebrating Ram Navami with great gatherings of people from all over India.[2]

Current situation and Legal understanding thereof

Presently, two-third of disputed site is under control of Hindus while one-third with Muslims as per order of Allahabad High Court in India.[13][14]

The presiding deity is therefore currently in a makeshift temple located at the site.[4][15]

In the legal parlance, the ruling of the Allahabad High Court implies that despite being a deity, Ram lalla enjoys legal rights, albeit represented by his guardian or next friend as he is a minor[4]. The Indian judicial system treats deities as legal entities who could have a legal representation in courts through the trustees or managing board in charge of the temple in which they are worshiped by devotees.[4][16] Refer Order 32 of the Civil Procedure Code[17] for clarity.

Literature

Thhumak Chalata Raamachandra, a well-known and well-sung literary work by the Hindu saint and one of the most famous representatives of the Bhakti school of Hinduism, Tulasidaas (Devanāgarī: तुलसीदास)[18], has praised Ram lalla in Bhakti tradition.[19] (About Tulasidas : Ramcharitmanas is Tulsidas’s magnum opus. He is also the author of several other works including Vinaya Patrika, Gitavali, Dohavali and Kavitavali. His minor works include Baravai Ramayana, Janaki Mangal, Ramalala Nahachhu, Ramajna Prashna, Parvati Mangal, Krishna Gitavali, Hanuman Bahuka, Sankata Mochana and Vairagya Sandipini. Furthermore, he is the seer of the Hanuman Chalisa, a powerful and popular mantra for Hanuman, in 40 verses.[20])
